Heart Health 

Controlling the following  risk factors are important for healthy aging:

  • High Blood Pressure

  • Elevated blood fats

  • Diabetes

  • Smoking

  • Alcohol

  • Obesity**

  • Inactivity or sedentary life style 

 **For Older Adults a strict weight loss diet is not recommended because it is likely to reduce muscle mass which needs to be preserved. Altering Physical Activity  to recommended levels for your age is one of the most effective health measure for healthy aging. Refer to Physical Activity.

A Mediterranean diet has shown to be protective for heart health

The  DASH diet ( Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension is  effective for high blood pressure ( hypertension)
